Re: Help with spark only setup for motorcycle

The Ignitech - according to my knowledge - is better suited to the "single tooth" aproach than the Microsquirt.

It can be programmed for a "immediate fire"-mode where it triggers when it first sees the falling edge of the pickup.

On the contrary, the Microsquirt can only fire after it saw at least ...

Re: Single-pickup ignition options...

But then, somehow the stock CDI can calculate ignition advance using only that single pickup, so I guess I wonder why the megasquirt couldn’t do the same?

Actually, the Microsquirt does work with a single tooth if you set it up carefully.

There's nothing a CDI can (or does) "calculate" an ...

Re: Loss of spark / revs

I've found that estimating the right advance for the ease of starting and smooth, clean idle isn't easy, especially with low rotational mass and hot cams on a small capacity, high compression motorbike engine (single cylinder, in my case). Of course you could always gear to OEM specs, but what if ...

Re: Microsquirt on a 6V system

Frankly, I don't know any 6V motorbike alternator with much more than about 60W power which will be way too weak to drive the Microsquirt, fuel pump and injector(s). You'll probably need to upgrade your generator first.

When getting out of sync at high RPM, it's usually better to do the other way round: move the sensor further away from the wheel. It's most ...

Re: "Cannot use Search function"

You can always harness Google if forum search is unavailable. Just add "site:microsquirt.com" to your search term and it will only return what's found over here.

Re: "Cannot use Search function"

phpBB (the forum software) has a load-constraint search which temporarily disables itself when the server is on high load or many users use the search function in parallel. That is to avoid lockup if search is used extensively.

That's probably what you're seeing. Some patience should help.

Re: Microsquirt timing issues.

I'd say its pretty impossible your engine would do anything but pop with the ignition 180° off. My first wild guess would be you have your timing light on cylinder 4 instead of 1.

Glowing pipes at idle are a sign of (slightly) retarded ignition (off by 10-20 degrees, exhaust gas is still burning ...

Re: Microsquirt playing dead after sitting on shelf

is the chip available, and is it drop in or require special programming (eg through BDM port?)
The chip is available (Digi-Key, for example) but you'll need to get at least the bootloader on the µP flash, which requires - to my knowledge - a BDM cable and proper software.
