Fuel Filters

Post by wmahaffey »

We are building a fuel sysem for a hot rod and trying to decide what kind of fuel filter to use. When choosing a fuel filter for a fuel injection system, what size particle to we need to trap, i.e. 5 micron, 10 micron, 20 micron, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Let me better describe my question. The type filters we are considering for the fuel filters are offered to filter different size particles. I know we have a choice between 10 micron and 40 micron filters and probably more. Of course the small the filtered particle size the more expensive the filter. What I am trying to determine is what size particle do I need to trap to prevent excessive wear on the fuel injectors.

Thanks again,

Bill

Maybe you can look up what the OEM called for and find the specs on that. I "think" FI filters are on the fine side as far as filters go. And if it is installed after the pump it needs to be rated for high pressure.

I did not worry to much about the specs on my filer. I just bought one for the vehicle who's FI I used and put it in the fuel system.
