Using distributer for TDC

Post by Tyler Townsley »

As I was using my timing light a thought came to me.

For those of us with old setups that do not have any trigger wheels etc why not use distributer. If you had an indictive p/u on the cyl before number one you then could use the cyl count and initial timing to locate tdc for fueling. You could use an adjustable timing light to plot the advance curve vs rpm to make correction necessary to keep tdc correct. If someone could design the ckt necessary for the megasquirt and how it could be implemented on the prototype area it would allow an easy way to do fuel only efi conversions on older cars. It could also be something a vender could develope as a kit/assembled for sale. I would buy two right now.

Using distributer for TDC

I think you are making this more complicated than it is. Megasquirt was set up initially as a fuel only controller as you describe from the beginning.
All that is needed is a signal from the negative side of your coil. TDC is irrelevant as this is a batch/bank fire system and not timed to any valve openings.

It is ALL explained in the manual. You just have to spend a little more time reading to get to it probably.
try this: http://www.megasquirt.info/v22manual/mfuel.htm#ignition

I know it can be somewhat daunting, there is a lot of info to absorb. BUT, 99% of a beginners questions, the answers are in there.
If you read the manual a few times through everything will be much clearer, and you will have a much easier time with your install and tuning.
MUCH EASIER!!!

Happy Reading!
