Header / Manifold glow - hot
I've been running MSnS-E for a while now and I'm happy with the mpg and power improvement over a draw-through carb. My setup is a GM TBI (still draw through).
Recently I've noticed that when crawling along on the beach, using my low range of gears, the truck will start to heat up. I'm running between 1300-1800 RPM, my narrowband 02 is functioning and I can watch my 02 meter dither as it should.
Tonight I opened the hood and my header had a mild red glow to it, clearly hot... I don't know if a mild glow is within acceptable limits for EGT or not, but it is hot.
Running the truck at faster speeds it has no problems cooling. I have an electric fan and can go to a 2nd push configuration, but I'm curious if anyone thinks I shouldn't be running at stoich or using my 02 that early in the RPM range, based on the manifold glow?
I believe my timing is fine (non-MS, I'm not using spark control). My motor is forged and low compression, I'm running no boost and very little throttle.

Thanks, Lance.. I think my idle is OK, truck runs cool. I've got a stainless header also.. Fairly thin.lance wrote:dcg9381,
That's not all that unusual, my thin wall stainless headers often glow dull red at idle (under the right lighting conditions). However, you may be a bit lean at idle - did you tune it to minimize the MAP reading as suggested in the manual?
Lance.
I did tune it per the manual.
Sounds like it might be my cooling capacity under load and low speed.
