What style distributor for my mustang?

Post by BottleFed70 »

It's time to replace my Mustang's 351W distributor and I was curious as to what would be the best choice for use with my MSII?

Currently I'm running into problems with tach spikes/dropouts so I'd like to choose a distributor with a pickup type that seems to work best with MSII v3.

I have choices of:
- Magnetic
- Optical
- HEI style
- Stock CFI/TFI style
- Others?

Any suggestions would be great.

I have finally gotten my MSD Probillet & VB921/MSD6AL setup running absolutely PERFECTLY now using the VR input circuit. VR/Magnetic gets my vote.

Stay the hell away from coil in cap HEI. The coil is just too close to the sensor.

I had worse luck with the VR straight to the MSII than with using a module in between.

But I still cannot get it to work so what do I know.

Whatever you decide, test your tach signal first before you tear anything apart or start your install. Get that fixed first or you will be where I am--In Meqasquirt Hell

I have been running a Pertronix unit in the stock distributor my 69 Mustang 351W for some time now. It is working great.
