HELP WITH DATALOG!

Post by QuarterHorse »

I'm at my whit's end, I don't know how to read this, and I may have an MS set up for Ford for sale dirt cheap here if I can't drive this thing shortly.

Anyway, here's my datalog that I've attempted.

HELP!

QuarterHorse,

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "I don't know how to read this" - do you mean which software package? Try megalogviewer (http://www.ideasandsolutions.biz/MSGraph/)

Or do you mean you don't know what it's telling you? In that case see this: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtune.htm#data there are a number of examples.

Or do you mean you have some specific issue with tuning, and can't see it on the datalog? In that case you'll have to describe the problem quite a bit more. I don't see anything in particular wrong in the datalog, you are idling nicely at 1100 rpm, with a steady MAP and reasonable pulse width around 4.4 msec. The only unusual thing I see is the EGO output, which seems unnaturally steady and high.

Well, I HAD the idle at a comfy 800R's, I'm not sure why the change. My duty cycle is at 4 million percent which isn't the case, and I can't get auto tune to take at all. Now I can't make any adjustments at all and the damn thing keeps shutting down if I try to ajdust. I can't tell it 8 cylinders instead of 7 for the required fuel, it won't do anything.

I'm just frustrated, and I have only a few hours on only a few days to work on this, and it's now been since March and I've done nothing but fight it. Sorry for the rant, again, just frustrated and a little upset I went this path.

QuarterHorse,

It sounds like you either have corrupt firmware, or you are using the wrong INI file for the code you have. If you let us know what code/processor you are using, we can point you to the correct instructions to reinstall everything so that it works properly (if it still doesn't work then, we can look at other possibilities).

Well I've un-installed the old megatune, installed the new, but I can't find firmware to download for some reason. I go to use with the old, and with the truck running, anytime I go to make a change, the truck dies. I also instead of having a 12x12 VE table, only have 8x8 now. Any advice?

Quarterhoarse,

I think you are neglecting a very important piece of the puzzle. MegaTune has an number of "INI" files, one for each code version for each processor. The INI files defines where values are sent in MegaSquirt's memory, and how they are interpreted by MegaTune when they come from MegaSquirt.

You MUST activate the appropriate INI file for your code, otherwise you WILL corrupt the code, and the engine will not run properly.

So you need to reload the code you wish to use. Then BEFORE opening MegaTune and sending any values, or attempting to start the vehicle, you need to activate the appropriate INI file. It sounds like you were using MSnS-E code (there are several dozen versions), so you need to activate the INI file to match the aporticualr code you have installed. See the MSnS-E site for the details on how to do this: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/

You can also get the firmware (.S19 file) from that site.

Thanks Lance! It's just hard for me to pick up to the same level in MS jargon and ability as I'm currently at in the rest of the hot rod ability. My brain is fightning me on learning it haha.

QuarterHorse,

It sounds like you may be trying to install the firmware using MegaTune. That won't work.

You need to follow the instructions that are appropriate for your code.

For example, for MS-II: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/code.htm#downloader

For MS-I, you can use the downloader as well, if you have the latest version: http://www.not2fast.com/megasquirt/ms2d ... _setup.exe

You can also use hyperterminal (http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mapp.htm#embed), or the MSnS-E batch file for that code.
