Taking the plunge - T-Minus 2 days and counting...help plz..

Post by Jesse »

All,

I am finally installing EFI conversion project after a year in the making. ('86 Monte Carlo SS, Weiand Tunnel Ram intake, twin Autonomics Throttle bodies, 350ci Smallblock Chevy, 30 lb/hr injectors, etc..). Check out the "Projects" page of "Success Stories" and you will see my setup.

Anyhow, I was curious to know if anyone would be so kind as to post their fuel maps for me as a base setting - primary focus on smallblock chevy engines 305ci to 428ci. I know that Lance has his map on here somewhere...just need to locate it again.

I would GREATLY appreciate any and all input on this. (I can't beleive this project is coming to a close...feel like a kid on Christmas!! :D )

Thanks all!

Lance - Thank you!!

Software Setup:
Megatune ver. 2.25 b514
MSnS-e ver. 024s9

I installed the intake over the holiday but wasn't able to get it running completely in time before I had to leave the city to go back to the town I work in.

Funny story - I was cleaning things up around the garage when I decided to try and fire up the engine. After entering in the data into the Constants page and obtaining a theoretical REQ_FUEL value I proceded to tinker with the pulsewidth values in the "Cranking Settings" page until the engine fired up, and then toyed with the REQ_FUEL value until it stayed running - but for some reason was running very rough. I then adjusted the timing back to the origional level (have to remove the distributor on the SBCs to install the intake) which made it run a little better. Then all of a sudden the engine perked up and ran fine. Funny thing is after this happened I noticed an abundance of a black furry substance near the backside of my car - almost the consistency of the stuff mice use to make a nest. Upon closer examination I discovered that it was the remains of a blue shop towel that somehow got stuck in one of the runners during the installation process and was never removed (oops). So after one of the cylinder bores injested the rag it was incinerated and consequently blown out of the exhaust. Car idled fine after that. (Thank god I am running a cam with over 0.500" of lift or else the rag might have never left the bore! The jury is still out on possible engine damage. This coming weekend I will pop out the spark plugs and take a look into the bores). Deffinitely one of those "smack-yourself-in-the-forehead" moments!

Question: Should I alter the pulsewidth values in the "Cranking Settings" page or run with the "Warmup Wizard" to get it started/idling/warmed up? The manual is not very clear on this.

Thanks again Lance for the info!!
