Anyone care to comment on state of tune of my Zetec?
Ive had my set-up running for a few weeks now and Ive been playing with autotune, reading and tweeking as I've gone along. Now I would like someone with a bit more experience to cast an eye over some of my attachments and see if things are looking about right and advise on what else needs tweeking.
My set up is a Zetec 1.8 engine with 130 spec cams and ITB's made from GSXR Throttle Bodys. I'm using Focus ST170 injectors that flow around 319cc/min.
My megasquirt is MS-I/MSnS-E on a V3 PCB. Im running 029q2 code.
I'm more interested in performance than economy as this is mainly used on track.
Please let me know if there are any other details I can give to help with feedback.
Many thanks
Chris
Whats TB's do you use? My set up is using 600TB's with the suzuki injectors. Unfortuneatly I blew a hole in the block at Brands Hatch 4 days after getting things running
Do you go to any of the Actio days at Combe? I'm regular up there so maybe we could compare notes if we are there at the same time.
I'm running a 2.0 with GSXR750 bodies and the same code with EDIS.
I've done a few cars now with bike bodies and the VE shoots up between 90KPa and 100KPa. Your map looks lovely and smooth in comparison.
How did you arrive at your full throttle map? I only ask because I might be doing something wrong.
I've tuned a pinto with a wideband on the road and I did the Zetec on a rolling road and ended up with very similar looking maps.
How have you connected your MAP pipe to the bodies?
Cheers and nice one
Paul.
My TB’s are GSXR 750 and as I am using a ST170 inlet manifold it made sense to use the ST injectors and fuel rail as well and I blanked off the GSXR injector holes.
The car seems to be running pretty well now and starts first time and idles beautifully. I have had to play around with the no-load/4500rpm area of the map as I only just scraped through the sound test at 100db’s due to some popping and banging. I found that as Autotune hadn’t been playing in this area it was still very rich from the original settings and with that now sorted out and also over-run fuel cut turned on it seems a lot better. I am booked on a track day at Keevil Airfield on Monday so we will see!
One area of concern that I do have is whether I am achieving the sort of power I should be able to. My old engine set-up was a 1650 Ford Crossflow putting out about 110-120bhp and I used to see 103mph on my ‘max speed recording cycle computer’ as I was approaching Avon Rise on Castle Combe Circuit. Now with the Zetec I should be around the 150bhp mark and yet my max speed was still 103mph! At first I thought it might be a gearing issue but as I’m not revving out in 4th or 5th gear I don’t see how it can be. That’s one of the reasons I thought I’d let the ‘community’ have a look at my datalog and see what they think. Anyone care to say whether they think it looks OK or needs a lot of work?
Thanks
Chris
My full throttle map is a combination of Autotune and some manual smoothing after starting out with a base map using the 'Generate Table' function.ptownsin wrote:Chris,

My Map goes like this:
All the ITB have an individual take off point, these are all connected together and a T then goes to the MS, there is also another T in the line which goes off to the Fuel Pressure regulator.
Thanks

Before the tb install my zetec was RR'd at 145BHP with only a K&N and cat back exhaust,, it's the 130 spec zetec. Coming into Avon I'm probably looking at 95-100mph (speedo reading 110mph max but this is an established error confirmed with Racelogic timing Gear). Would have thought you'd be a good bit faster in a westy.
On the vaccuum take off my 600's also have 2 nipples per body that are running brake servo and fuel pressure reg
I have use my old webers as throttle bodies and put the injectors into the weber manifold which works very well so far.I have to get hold of a set of smaller injectors as I am use ing 380cc from the Rover turbo I got the fuel rail from.
I havent been to Castle combe this year but normaly go up to the action days. I live in Dorset but have mates with Tigers in Bristol.I do alot of trackdays with Motorsport events at Keevil and Hullavington.

I've had a quick look and have the following observations:
From the O2 readings it looks like your useing wideband, is that correct?
If running wideband with 0v = 10/1 and 5v = 20/1 then it looks like your experiencing the usual steep rise in VE with MAP above 90kpa. as it looks like your running rich at 90 and about stoic at 97 where I think you should be closer to 12.5.
If you've just used autotune then it may be that you have too few bins around this non linear region causing this.
With this configuration some consider placing more bins in the 90-100kpa range but I have found that Alpha-n gives better control at full bore which would imagine your wanting.
Search some of my previous posts for details if relevant.
I have run your datalog through my analysis software and attached some xls files based on SD and hybrid Alpha-n file based on a variable AFR table running about 16/1 at light load and 12.5 at full load. The zero's are missing elements are where there were no data points so would need.
I'm running a 2.3 Duratec on ITB's and noticed a significant improvement on Alpha-n as have a few others.
PS which version of megatune are you using as I couldn't load the msq?
Cheers,
Colin
Good to see another person in the sw with zetec tb's and ms. I can see Combe going to be useful for comparing progress and maps. You kit car guys will leave me dead on track though
Whereabouts in Dorset? I'm in Bridport.
PS Guys rather than hijack chris' thread with general chat hows about a thread in the European Squirters Forum?
