No spark EDIS MSII V3.0 PCB

Post by RichyQuest87 »

Hello all,

I have no spark at the plug wires. Ive read the EDIS section over and over and I would like all of your input. I have power going into the coil. Can a VR sensor gap of over .60 cause a no spark issue? If not I can only think of one other thing. Im not totally certain on this as Im not looking at it this second, but I believe I mounted the 36-1 wheel with the missing tooth 9 teeth behind the sensor instead of 9 in front of it at TDC. Would that cause a no spark issue?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated

The position of the missing tooth matters for engine running but not for simply getting a spark. The most common reason for no spark is a wiring error. If you look closely at the EDIS wiring drawing you will see that the middle lead of the coil pack should go to 12V not to ground but it is not obvious on the picture. That has caused problems for many people on the forums, me included!

Jon,

Thanks for that! I am going to be re-doing the EDIS docs (and illustrations) shortly to clarify as much as possible.

If you or anybody else has ideas on what needs to be done to clear up the docs, now's that time to mention them.

Lance.

Have you tested the VR sensor on a volt meter wile cranking over the engine?
You should be able to see a AC output from 1-4v depending on the vr sensor, Mine used to read around 1.8v AC wile cranking at aprox 300rpm.

I finally got a day off from work and finally got it sparking without MS hooked up. Now I don't have a RPM signal to MS. While cranking, I get a short blink of the red cranking light coming on in the status bar at the bottom and it will blink 1 RPM on the real time display.

some more info I just got while at the car.

VR sensor voltage - roughly around 3V (cant find my digital MM)
sensor is approx. .045" away from wheel ( just over 1mm)

It will show cranking very briefly then nothing and if I stop cranking and then just go to crank it again, nothing until I shut the car off all the way and then crank it again to see the brief cranking.
