Data Logging

Post by 2WHEELENGR »

Any future plans to for on-board data logging? Logging to a flash drive or scan disk? :RTFM:

I would totally love this capability : )

As soon as I get my car goin this is the first thing I want to start workin on. This device from sparkfun looks like it would *almost* do the trick just a little modding to their code needed to request serial output from MS2, but I'd rather something that could talk via CAN i think.

http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc ... cts_id=752

They have the SD sockets and a breakout board for it too so one could develop their own.

I'd like some kind of real time clock that you could set so you could more easily reference part of the log by time/date.

I would love also that function. I have MS2 in my racing car for hillclimbing. It will be very nice to analyze data after race drive.

I'm looking at doing a board that would connect to MS2 through CAN or MS1 through RS232 and would log the data on an SD card. It would also have an USB connector to configure the data logging (through Megatune) and to possibly transfer the data logs to a PC (if you don't want to remove the SD card). It would also have real time clock, a 3-axis accelerometer, a possibility to have a GPS module, and maybe a VSS input. It would also have available a few additional analog inputs and timer I/Os (possibly for PWM outputs or speed inputs) that would require additional hardware.

There is still quite a bit of work to do on the software side but it would be open source like the rest of MS and it would be based on a MC9S12C microcontroller. Do you think this would be close to what you guy's had in mind? I don't know how much it would cost but hopefully below $100 without GPS and the GPS module I want to use is $50.

If I see there is a lot of interest I will try and put more effort in the development to have it ready for beta testing as soon as possible. Let me know.

Yeah, that will be excelent. I am looking for unit to which I will conect when I come to depo with notebook via USB and download data for analyzation.

Crazy - thats almost exactly what I was going to look into doing. My senior project last year used the same processor and we were using a lassen iq gps module from sparkfun as well and the whole time I kept thinking how cool it would be to interface the gps module with an SD datalogger for megasquirt. Plus any onboard clock could be set by the gps module : )

No. Partly due to the underwhelming response it's been put on the back burner.

However, the graphic gauge project will cover some of the planned functionality: http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=140827#140827
