I can not get a tach signal with my MS-2 using a GM DIS syst

Post by 02z24sc »

I am really getting frustrated with this MS-2. I have tried everything to get a tach signal. I am using a per 95 ICM and wired it correctly and I am still not getting a signal. I am about ready to throw this thing away and get something else. Any help would be great before I break this thing.

02z24sc,

Does it work on a stim?

Did you assemble it yourself? Have you seen this: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3trouble.htm (it gives tips on what to check if you don't get a rpm signal)

Every thing is in its proper location. I dont have a stim but I had it checked out by someone that has stim. I am getting all signals except for a tach signal. Like I said, I have done everything that I can think of.

02z24sc,

When you had it checked on the stim, did the rpm work?

Yes it did work on the stim. I had Peter Florance look at it.

Will I show a signal in Mega tune when cranking the engine or not.

02z24sc,

MegaTune will show an rpm on it's tach when cranking (and at all rpms, of course). Showing no rpms suggests you don't have a tach signal.

If it works on the stim, then it will work in the car, if:

- the proper input circuit and settings are used,
- the module is creating and sending the appropriate signal, and
- the harness is actually delivering the signal to MegaSquirt.

At this point, I think you need the factory service manual to help you check your wiring, etc.

You more then likly have it built for a VR signal. The DIS needs the board set up for a Hall signal. If all that stuff was put on the board, then its just a matter of cutting the jumper wires and putting the correct ones in.

Also, you have to hook the tach wire up to the Ref high cuircuit Purple and white. Some DIS have a specific tach output, you may also be able to use that too, but you would have to test to see if it works.

Yes. Make sure you have MT reading the MS unti first. This is easy. If the tps is hooked up, you will see activity for the tps gauge. MT will also have a box lite on the bottom of the screen that will read "Cranking" But you might have to turn your cranking rpm down a little for it to consider the engine as "cranking"...at least I had to.

It is setup for the Hall sensor. I checked to make sure last night. I am comm. with my lap top. My tps works, my IAT works and my O2 is sending my signal. How low did you have to set your cranking rpms for it to show. The DIS module I am using is from a 92 quad 4. It has a separate wire for a Tach signal (white), a higf ref wire (purple and white) and a PCM signal wire (light blue and black).
