I have a RZ500 fitted on a TZR250 3XV chassis. Bellow is a pic The project started with an seized and crashed TZR250 3XV, an RZV500 engine in a breaker's yard and a front end from a racer friend.

Initially I was going to fit four carbs (MikuniTM30s), CDI, YPVS controller etc. Despite my efforts, I couldn't find a OEM CDI and a YPVS controller at a reasonable price.

EITHER I should go for an adjustable DC-CDI from another bike and four carbs with unknown results OR for MiniSquirt and some throttle bodies, injectors and sensors.

What choices do I have for throtle bodies? It seems that modern 600s have 38 throtle bodies. Are they suitable for RZ500?

Post by Angelos13 »

I have a set of 34mm throtle bodies (4) they came out of a gts1000 the engine is rated at 100-110hp for a inline 4.
I have the hole set, tbi, injectors, fuel regulator, fuel rail. I maybe have the throtle cables and the throtle it self I will have to look for that.
If intrested let me know for pictures.
I even have the engine :D
I want $100 plus S&H for the throtle bodies setup and
$400 for the engine if any intrest.

I'm using GPZ1100 throttle body injection on my RZ500 project.
I've got the fuel pump (supposedly 3A draw), regulator, TPS etc.

I thought they were 32mm, but just measured them with verniers and they are 34mm.

The throttle bodie are from a 93-94 Yamaha GTS1000.
Here are some ruff mesurements:
1. throttle body spacing (from bore to bore)

(1st bore) 3.375" (2nd bore) 3.750" (3rd bore) 3.375 (4th bore)

2. throttle body bank: total width

Width 3.4"

3. throttle body bank: total length

Lenght about 14"

4. throttle body bank: total height

Height 3.15"

5. injection jets spacing

(1st Injector) 3.75" (2nd Injector) 4.75" (3rd Injector) 3.75" (4th Injector)

Injectors are bolt on to the head directly, so for the throttle bodies you will have them on top like the new 1000rr or 600rr.

I'm running Yamaha R6 throttle bodies on my RZ350. They have CV slides in them that make them perfect for running on small displacement engines. I took them apart and spaced them correctly for my engine.

Here they are installed.

I used a Walbro in-line pump that draws 4 amps by my measurement. Walbro claims 5 amps, but it is less in actuality.

For those of you worried about total current draw, I'm running the whole thing off of a 200 watt (14 amp) stator. This includes dual headlights, fuel pump, the MegaSquirt itself, and an electronic cluster. Oh, and the very rarely used brake lights. :)

The MegaSquirt is running MSnS-E 029t code (fuel only) with a MAP sensor. (There was a rumor that a MAP sensor would not work on a 2 stroke engine and that a MAF sensor was required. But this is not the case.)

I also tuned the VE tables with a wide band O2 sensor. I also had heard that a wide band sensor would not work in a 2 stroke. But it does. At least it's lasted long enough to tune it. I'll report when/if it dies.

This bike is running. I mean, like it was fuel injected from the factory! It's quite possibly the first MegaSquirted RZ350 on the planet. Maybe even the first MegaSquirted 2 stroke motorcycle. If anyone knows something to the contrary, let me know.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

angelo any chance we could get those spec's in mm's. my honda needs 80-100-80 spacing. the gsxr bodies can be rearranged so the cables are in the middle & the injectors mount to the bodies.
angelo or smurph, can you send pix or links on the fuel pumps you have?
we have several guys on the CB1100F.net forum collecting parts stash for projects this winter. power is an issue for our bikes. 260w gen strugles to keep up w/ ignition & lights. not to mention EFI. low rpm ( under 3k ) power output is sad.
If anyone can jump over to our forum for parts, tuning & general advise about EFI we would greatly appreciate it. there any many who are not convinced about the benifits of EFI & megasquirt. thanks :D
