Dr. Hess found the best small fuel pump for good supply and low draw. It is a WalBro that is the OEM for a Victory V92. Search Ebay, thats where I found mine. I asked a WalBro dealer about it and gave him the model number but he had never heard of it. It is inline and I could not get it to draw over 2 amps.
The actual WalBro number is GSL414, 1.75" in diameter, just under 8" long from tip to tip of the hose barbs. This was the biggest obstacle I had encountered up until now so I am relieved.
What sort of HP do you expect it will deliver for?
I'm looking at 100-120HP 2 stroke.
Currently I have a fuel pump from a GPZ1100, which is a pretty old injected bike, so I'm hoping that its age will mean it didn't have too much current to play with.
This pump should be perfect. I would guesstimate it could support up to 200hp. I was worried when most folks were lookin' to use the GPz pump. Like lookin' fer rare antique car parts. I haven't hooked this up yet but they are pretty inexpensive on Ebay.
I haven't seen one on Ebay lately either. Turns out this pump draws more than we previously thought but is still probably the best option currently available.
I believe that pump draws in the 5amp range and flows enough for 500hp. Even if the draw was less, the flow rate is so high that I have been told "fuel heating" will occur. This is from having so much fuel continually being circulated. It may turn out that the Victory/Walbro pump draws and flows the same. I'll check with Dr. Hess as he has been running this set-up for a little while now.
I never did get a difinative answer as to wheather or not the pump draw varies depending on load. 5amps under load isn't any big deal as long as it were do go down during normal operation. Since the pump just runs and the Fuel Pressure Regulator does the controlling I can't see how it would or could. I know little about electric pumps/motors, maybe it does vary.
I wouldn't have thought that load would have come into it too much unless you were running a variable pressure regulator such as on a turbo car.
In a N/A environment, either the fuel goes through the injectors, or it is returned. The pump would essentially be pumping pretty much the same amount of fuel the whole time wouldn't it?
5A is not too bad, but I would have preferred 3-4amps.
