fuel pump overheating

Post by pommie02 »

My fuel pump keeps overheating..
i am using a car inline pump..it is rated at 400hp, it is a bosch pump.
i know it draws a lot of current, and is a bit to big for a bike.
does any one have any ideas..or a smaller inline pump that draws about 5 amps max

That should help; it sounds like your old pump was trying to move more fuel than your regulator could handle or just recirculating the fuel so fast it heated up faster.

Ok
it seems that my fuel pump is ok...the fuel is full of air !
i am going to use gravity feed for my pump, should i use a priming pump as i have no room for a surge tank ?

now i have burnt out another pump...
i am using suzuki 750 throttle bodies, an inline pump which feeds the injector rail, i have fiited a retur which goes through a regulator which returns to the tank...i have ow burnt out 2 pumps.
on the original suzuki the pump is in the tank with a built in regulator which feeds the rail with no return
can i feed the rail and fit a regulator before the rail by use of a T and retrun to the tank ?

My bike (stock) runs returnless as well. I have read about some car guys doing it and not having any problems (fuel tank, fuel pump, press reg and return line all in the boot). Is it possible that being a returnless system that the tube diameter/rail etc is not large enough for enough fuel to flow, which is overloading the pump? I don't think it can hurt to give your idea a try.

It may be that you pump needs the heat sinking provided by immersing it in fuel; the fuel flowing though it may not be enough to cool it.

Have you considered installing it in-tank through the opening for the fuel level sensor? Would that be possible on your bike?
