2007 yamaha apex snowmobile

Post by siznitt100 »

hello i am very new at this squirt stuff so please forgive for a very newbie question.

i have a 2007 yamaha apex snowmobile,
1000cc displacement
efi port injection on throttle bodies
stage 1 supercharger making additional 100hp from the stock 160 so for a total of aprox 260-270hp around 10,000rpm
4 stroke

the sled has for sensors
original computer MAP
coolant
tps
crank
4 single injector (measuring 13 ohms each)
aem wide band o2 sensor

now my question is the aftermarket programmer that comes with the super charger is a piece of s@#$ you always have to play with the settings to compensate for altitude, boost fuel, main jet and idle circuit, which are constantly changing due to verious conditions, temps and of course altitude.

would or have any of you experienced adding the micro squirt as a piggy back system to a stock computer, ie to only controll fuel or keep the stock computer to controll the fuel and use the micro to add in more injector pulse when required for the boost.

just by my readings and understandings of the system i will be using a GM 3 bar MAP to give me readings for boost in the manifold which in turn will eliminate my need for altitude compensation( as the map will compensate) and using the wide band o2 for the tuning process.

this in my opinion would be the same as hooking up to a s/c or turbo bike with the only difference is altitude.
any help would be great thanks colin

I have contemplated doing a piggyback setup on my Nytro, because the Microsquirt can't do spark on a three cylinder, and then the stock ecu could control the idle control and engine braking reduction system. I think it would be pretty easy on an apex. There is a large plug on the left hand side of the throttle body area where you could tap into most of the wires you need. You can buy the Yamaha oem connectors so you wouldn't even need to cut wires.

Unfortunately I've gotten no further than thinking about it, so I have no experience. Can't be much help.

hello Colin

I am a guy from Norway who has the same snowmobile, and i have thougt to use microsquirt on the sled but, i am wondering howe it did go with you and your project. ihave an mcx kit with some extra, i have thougt to use 550ccm injectors on the org. efi. and want to use the microsquirt to the hole system. did you have much trouble to get the microsquirt to work on your snowmobile?

i am definately interested in this as well as I have the same sled.
The biggest hurdles will be the crank trigger, what ignition to use(more than likely wasted spark), and how to intigrate this into the stock gauges and what not.
I'd be nice to get a discussion started on this

Hello Turbomatt

i have just ordered my microsquirt, so i am waiting for the hardness to come in a week or two. have you tried the microsquirt on your sled?
i know that mcx in sweden are using some parts from megasquirt for their kit.

would been nice with a discusion round these things.

I haven't done anything yet. Still trying to figure out if it is feasible. I don't want to spend all season at the bottom of the hill w/ my laptop trying to get it running.

Are you gonna do full ign and fuel control or just start with fuel? I am thinking about just doing fuel 1st then maybe ignition later(next year).
What are your plans?

hello

i have a friend who i am working with. He recommended me to start with the fuel first, and i`m going to follow his advise. my microsquirt is at the postoffice right now, so it will be in my hands from monday of. i have heard that many apex turbo`s need some modification of the ignition, but i want to start with the fuel, to do the ignition i will need some time and someone to discuss with:))????

there are a firm called 02engines.com who has used megasquirt to their r1 turbo, maybe the can be used??

what are your plans??
