77 gl1000 fuel pump

Post by hegel »

Let me see if I understand this correctly. TBI requires less pressure than Port efi setup. How much flow is required for TBI? I plan on either using gsxr 600 Throttle bodies or ninja ex650 (goldwing is flat 4) both of which are TBI.

I was looking at this but i'd be affraid that the little guy couldnt keep up.

25L / hour equates to about 6 gph. am I totally wrong in thinking this would work? the worst fuel consumption i've gotten was 25mpg and even then at 70 I'm using 2.8 gallons. (this would seem to be plenty adequate )

it also comes with a fuel pressure regulator which is a plus.

dunno I'm a bit skeptical but i'd like to hear from the experts before I purchase anything.

thanks,
Steve

That translates into about 40 lb/hr, which at 0.5 lb/hp-hr brake specific fuel consumption would mean this pump could handle 80 hp max. That is with no reserve, so really I'd say it would probably be safe to use up to 60 hp. Keep in mind that you don't have anything like a float bowl to take up slack under acceleration, so you have to size the pump for fuel consumption at full throttle. This pump is more suited to a GL500 Silverwing than your bike.

Hi There! I'm doing the same conversion on the same bike, I chose a civic pump because it would fit in the hole for the fuel sender, I'm also using GSXR throttle bodies because they fit in the stock inlet manifolds. I made a block that bolts on where the fuel tap was and used the GSXR pressure relief valve as the fuel return, I also made a plennum that allows the use of the stock air box and filter. I'm only half way there but it's coming along slowly.
