I had an anxious few seconds this morning let me tell you.
Good news to all those worried about cold weather, my car fired up right away.
(I know, I know, I'm not the first person to drive one in the cold, but I'm pretty excited anyways :))

As someone who's driven MS through two Canadian winters, I know your joy! I never had a problem starting. Cold-temp success is more a function of battery/cable condition. The only MS issue is that of tuning the really cold warmup bins. You may only get a couple shots at it each season.

We're at about -22C here. Good news for the ice rink, though. It was just water two days ago!

Being due west across the border from Roger, I get pretty much the same weather. I like it when it gets this cold (!) because it let's me play with my ASE and WUE settings. :) My Audi had a CLT of 7F (-14c) yesterday morning (-22c ambient), which caused my total enrichments to be 241% when I first started the car, which fired right up. It was still too lean, but it kept running, so I think I'll leave it alone. I've been getting quite good fuel economy in the cold (relatively speaking, of course) because I always run the car way lean when there's no boost, although it does cause some driveability issues when it's warming up, I prefer that to paying for the extra fuel (it's nice to have choices).

Eric... do you have any advice/theory on ASE/WUE stiings in general as far as temp, and low temp go?

Hmm, from reading other people's experience combined with my own in tuning counterflow VAG motors, I'd have to say it is very much engine specific. My engine wants huge enrichments when it's cold, others appear to be able to get away with a lot less. The one variable that I think is most significant for ASE is compression ratio. I have 7.8:1 on my motor, so the adiabatic temperature rise due to compression is fairly low compared to most engines, which I'd guess are 9.0:1 or higher these days (even my non-MS turbo Audi has 9.2:1).

Try this out with 7.8 and 9.2:1 CR values, see a 4% increase in chamber temperatures...

For WUE, I think head material, manifold location (is the intake over the exhaust, or is it over some big cold lump of iron), intake manifold material (iron vs aluminum), injector location, valve size and all sorts of other things can play a role.

I suppose with enough different engines we could see some patterns, but at this point it all looks like empirical craft to me...

Mr Slick... I can send you some info: I think my Neon engine is similiar 'enough'. My cams are pretty different, and I'm missing that turbine thingie on the exhaust side. :lol:
She started Monday at -20deg C. I'm running 195% enrich in that area, IIRC. Even at 0, the enrich values are around 160 or so. 55% ASE for 150 cycles (?). I'll double check later, and post the numbers. I couldn't believe how much fuel a cold motor needs. :wink:

I'll try to post it tonight: it seems that my poor old laptop doesn't want to read/write floppies anymore, so it'll be the old manual transfer. :lol:

Well i'm going to try and finally get my MS 420A/2GNT install page together today... and see if I can get some ifles uploaded...
