Interest in IAC housing for MSII?
I have designed 2 options for an IAC housing and would like to know the interest in either. Here are the options for both and pricing.
option 1:
cost $27.00 to $22.00
Description: This would be an adapter to turn a housing from a 91'+ jeep I-6 into a housing with 1/4 pipe threads that can be used independently of the throttle body.
Upside: cheaper option
Downside: gotta find a junkyard that will sell it separately (I had to drive 100+ miles and pay $10) and make a gasket.
Option 2:
Cost: $47.00 to $37.00
Description: A completely new housing where you would just have to get the IAC and connector. this would have 3/8 pipe threads.
Upside: more complete, simpler
Downside: more expensive
On both of these options the lower price is for minum order of 20; higher for order of 10. They both use the o-ring style IAC from a 91'+ Jeep 4.0L. There would be a initial lead time of 2.5 months or so. the first month and a half to have the prototype made and tested and a month to make the main batch. The prices do not include $3.85 shipping to the US (priority mail actual price).
I was thinking of sending one to Lance or Al for testing and verification if their willing.
So what do ya think... I'd make this a poll if I knew how... I have not been able to find out how much the Electromotive one is so if the pricing is way out there let me know.

Just an update on Darkstar's IAC housing. Darkstar sent me a protoype a few weeks ago, and I have been testing it on my car.
First of all, it is a very nice piece, nicely machined and finished with no 'rough edges'. I expect the production version will be very nice as well. All internal dimensions were within a few thousanths of an inch of the OEM specs. The housing is designed to accept the 'O-ring' stepper IAC (aka. 'in-line' because of the connector) shown on the right here:

In additon to later GM products, these steppers were also used in Chrysler applications as well as many aftermarket TBs (Holley, for example).
Second, as near as I can tell in my testing, it performs identically to the 'factory' stepper motor on my Holley throttle body. I tested it through several cold start cycles over three weeks and found no problems at all. This isn't a suprise, becasue the dimensions and layout is an exact copy of the OEM set-up.
The housing is a separate piece from the throttle body, so you have to find a place to mount it, but it doesn't need to be especially near the throttle body (I tested it Tee'd into the brake booster line, where it worked fine). It is also quite small and easy to find a spot for (always a consideration on my car!)
The vacuum (to manifold) and air (to air cleaner housing) connections are pipe threads, so you can use all sorts of connections to the IAC with various common adapters, from 'nipples and rubber hose' to 'compression fittings and hard lines' to 'braided stainless hose'.
