A few pictures of a dual fuel setup

Post by mitsuko »

I've been running om MS ( petrol ) for nearly two years now .
The car is an audi 100 I5 , naturally aspirated . Wifes daily driver .

It's always been a bi -fuel , but lpg LPG has been a classic mixer setup
until now .

This is how my first setup looked like .
Copper and brass bits n pieces , silver soldered together .

Looked like sh*t , but it worked very wel .

OOps ; JPeg's are not allowed ??

Here's a few pics of the new manifold ;
Yeah , spend several hour cleaning it .
I was ashamed when I had to pop the hood to show the
megasquirt setup to someone .

The new fuelrail is made of extruded aluminium .
Came as a "walking stick" from rossmachineracing .
Real good material .

Space is limited on the no1 .
But I managed to squeeze the fpr , iac , fuel rail and injector in .
Now I wonder , will the connector fit ?

A few pictures of the lpg related material .

Injectors are made by AG .
The vaporiser/reducer is also AG .
It has a manifold reference , and an integrated pressure sensor .

In each runner , a special kind of bung was placed to hold the lpg injector

Again ,extruded aluminium rail was used , but with a biggedr dial .
The rail is supposed to be a little accumulator , like a compressor tank .
On the right side , I've integrated a temperture sensor .

I'm gonna try an experiment .
The audi TB has a dual butterfly , overlapping each other
when they open , and of a different dial .
So I'm gonna use a dual tps . One on each , and mix the signal electronicly .
See if this makes accel enrichement tuning a bit easier .

Pat,

Is that the stock manifold on that engine? I've never seen a 2-piece one before...

Yes , it was used on the last generation audi 100 , the engine code AAR .
And it was also used on european 10V coupe 's , the NG engine .

The injectors are placed in the manifold , not in the head .
They originally use the black plastic injector insert with o-rings .
And k-jet injectors ofcourse
I ve mailed you a picture once .

The split manifold is real handy when it comes to designing new stuff .
Sadly , when you put the second half on , non of the shiny stuff underneath is visible anymore .

where did you get the "AG " injectors?.Did you include a nozzle to get the LP gas into the Intake asir stream,or does each "squirt" just aim into each manifold runner from the runner wall?.
Here iN Brisbane,(7/9/05) the Pump price for LP gas is 39 cents (AUD) per liter, how much, in Euro's, is it in Belgium ?

Yup, got the pictures of the cups up on my website somewhere. I don't think we ever got the AAR or NG here, we got the NF as the high performance naturally aspirated 10v, but I've never seen anyone with an NG.

Here's that picture, down at the bottom:

@Mercmad : I can get the AG stuff at a local LPG dealer . Nice guy , always willing to participate in an aexpreiment .
No nozzle , each injector goes directly into the airstream .
I know bigas has nozzles , but most of the time they are drilled away to create a clear passage .
Lpg prices are around 45 eurocents / liter .
Premium pump gas is now 1.56 € a liter .

@Eric :
Yes we are a bit priviliged in Europe when it comes to various engines .
Fi you didn't get the 136Hp KV engine either .
Great engine with lotsa torque and virtually indestructible .

Today I've been working on the tps setup . Tomorrow is the big day .
Upgrade to Ms'nS -E .
Dual fuel , switching with the nos circuitry ,
prepare for ignition controle , pwm iac .
Add two inputs for lpg pressure and temperature .
And a lot of rewiring to do .
