How to wire Toyota 4A-GE Silvertop 3 Pin PWM to MSII V3.0?

Post by jamesawooten »

Hi All,

I'm in the process of wiring up my 4A-GE Silvertop into an '86 MR2 using MSII and the V3.0 mainboard.

The MSII manual seems to be a little vague on wiring the 3 wire PWM idle valve that I have (picture attached) to the DB37 connector.

The wires are (left to right) w, b/r, w/gr.

Any help here?

Regards,

Jim Wooten

the picture is missing, but when you put it up i can check the blacktop outside while running to see what the pins are attached to stock(assuming it has the same valve).

(edit, the pic loaded after i posted. i'll have a look. ???)

the centre one is live 12v battery voltage minus a hair, so i'm guessing the other two get grounded by the ecu in some fashion (alternating?)

on my way to work, so if you have a question my dmm can answer shoot...

Well, from the MSnS-E information, I find the following diagram for wiring up a 3 wire PWM valve but I know from some of Lance's previous posts that we should never assume that MSII works the same way. I'm just looking for some confirmation that this wiring scheme will work with MSII's implementation of PWM valve control.

Just as an aside, isn't that 50 watt resistor specified in the drawing a little bit of overkill? If it was the only resistance in the circuit, it could only draw .34 Amps.........

Hey, Denso sent a (toyota) pinout. They are not willing to provide any further info. The valve is partially open eg 1/3 from factory. The pinouts as follows: The r/siscv upside down with three tabs to the sky. Left to right isc1 "Close" b+ 12v (but can definately range between 9-12V) isc2 "Open" The valve/vane is fixed in relaition to shaft. So it cannot be used as a straight on off. the r/siscv is also used for carbon canister/vapour purging. Could potentially replace it with a flat plat, taps and and egr valve from a blue top.... My gze is in a 69 torana (8-11 gallon fuel tank, does not require carbon canister)

hey,
SAE paper "j pin voltage chart" for the toyota.

isc0 and isc1 with ignition on 9-14v

if you have an seperate air con iscv (eg on blue top or celica)
-- 9-14 no air con,
with air con 3v max @ idle
