MicroSquirt.com read only forum (Jan.15,2018)

We have found another electric start system design and will pursue that before the fuel injection....for a couple of good reasons - one is that it is NOT $2000! We just ordered a new frame for this 1956 model FLH (shovel on a PH gen bottom) so some time will pass before work actually commences on the fuel system but modifications to use it must be contemplated as the bike is assembled. There aren't too many places to hide even the small package that a MicroSquirt occupies - so - working on that too. Parts for the start system need to be CNC'd for fit as the bike is assembled.

We intend to use a late model HD throttle body and the fuel line and it's attachments to the tank/rail/fuel pump that HD uses look promising. They use a quick disconnect from the rail to the tank and the tank fitting hose attaches to the fuel pump/regulator inside. The thought is to drop a fuel pump attached to this line from inside, down the fill hole without making a large 'hatch' in the tank.....may be possible anyhow. Hiding an external fuel pump and associated plumbing would be cumbersome and darn near impossible on this bike.

Bill, I thought I'd pass this info onto you. I was messing with the MicroSquirt earlier today, and I got my cam lobe somewhere near the sensor and spun the crankshaft round with my hand by pulling on a crank web...a bit like a kick, and it instantly recorded rpms. So I'd say if you do the usual with your kickstart, and put the engine into a certain position before you kick it over, and the sync tooth was nearby, a good kick should register enough rpms.

Thanks Mike, I'll try that with this system. Seems like 50 RPM's shouldn't be too hard to reach, then set the uS to initiate with as few 'pulses' as possible...
