Re: More Data
Car is in the barn for the Winter now, but if there are any questions in particular, I'll answer them however I can.
On this car, I swapped from the original '80 distributor to the D585s. Difference was big in responsiveness, but perhaps that had to do with mapping also (even though I tried different amounts of advance in distributor).
The original ignition was very particular about plug gap. I was able to gap up quite a bit, which seemed to help MPG and idle quality. See the MyE28 post on this: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=66269
I think there is also some info in the uS beta forums when I first had D585 coils on my Pontiac. I initially wired them with the small gauge signal wires backwards and learned that GM LS coils have two different wiring schemes. Be careful... with the D585 (LS truck), they are different from the other LS coils without heat sink on it, even though the pigtail looks the same.
Are you looking to put these on your car?
Scott.

Or something similar. I'm really wondering about the mounting and whether you used wires or solid bootsTheMonkey wrote:

If you find a boot kit to fit these coils, let me know!
Mounting was sort of a hack with a strip of aluminum angle iron, and spacing the coils off a bit for clearance.

For my Pontiac, I drew up a bracket to have laser cut, but I might end up with the same aluminum angle for that car too to keep up the strength.

Do you think anything at Kingsborne would be useful?

Re: More Data
That looks like a good source. They would certainly know the issues.
I think the Taylor boots I used were called LT1. The important thing is that the metal clip is the right shape to attach to the coil. Then, the problem I ran into was finding the right size boot to go over the coil housing. The LT1 boots were a bit to small and tend to 'poo' off the coil if you put in dielectric grease. Holds okay if dry, but obviously a trade-off.

Thanks for that. I wonder if I could just buy an LS1 wire set and shorten it with connectors to fit my plugs?

Re: More Data
Yes, I reckon so. On the BMW, I didn't do that because I needed the deep hard plastic plug connectors to go into the head, and I also just kind of took the easy route.Peter Florance wrote:..... I wonder if I could just buy an LS1 wire set and shorten it with connectors to fit my plugs?
