MS2+GM DIS= Saturn with surge/ IAC issues DATALOGS

ok Hi everyone... I have noticed that no one ever seems to be able to help me ... But Ill try again anyways...

I am currently running
MS2 firm: 2.33 on v3 PCB
MT 2.25 (latest release)
On a 93 Sc2 Saturn

I have been trying to get my MS to cooperate with my GM DIS module...

I have read Wopontour's GM DIS threads, and meny other pertaining to EDIS... I have read several threads in he MSnS Edis and other forums.

I CANNOT control my ignition timing....

MY SETTINGS
offset 70 deg. (courtesy of this thread http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=13 ... ght=saturn)

skip pulse 3
algorithm 1st deriv.
predict. gain 20%

next puls stuff
50: 80: 25

ign. input triger. Falling edge
cranking trigger return/ calculated
charging EDIS
ign output Going hi (inverted)

dwell ZERO

I start the car with the stock ignition ... Timing light is jumping around 5-15 deg. advance... (i have a fairly loopy idle)

Remove the bypass (+5V) to drive into Limp mode... Timing light reads 10 deg. advanced... (I have a nice steady idle)

turn off car...

Plug EST wire from S5 from relay board into EST on ignition module And leave Bypass unplugged again... (I have a nice steady idle)

Start Engine...

Limp mode .......Timing light is still at 10 deg. BTDC....

Plug in Bypass wire... Timing drops to 0 deg BTDC... somtimes 2-5 deg ATDC.... With No timing Control.... (Idle drops somtimes dies/timing is retarded)

I have changed my settings... from Going Hi(inverted) to Going Low... I got what looked like 30-40 deg advancment... Whoever No control..

Changed my Imput capture trigger to Rising edge... no help....

Some of these changes did Change the Ignition timing... from 0 Deg. BTDC to 40deg. BTDC....

However

None gave me timing control..

I have also gone over the Asyembly of the V3 board... Everything is jumpered to HALL/OPTIO out... I have Removed a couple of things Per Asyembley Instructions(for not using IGBT hi current ignition output circuit).
Specificly : Removed D1 (installed Jumper) ; Removed R57 (says it shouldnt be there period..... but it was there.) ; Removed R43...

...I dont understand whats wrong...

My fuel control is great....

but there is a HORRIBLE Flat spot in the Stock ignition timing between 2 and 4k rpm.. and suddnly the timing starts Advancing and you get all this Power all a sudden... when you should have power all the time...

Wopontour.... Anyone..... Please Assist me ...

Lordprimate,

EDIS is a Ford sytem, GM DIS is a General Motors system. They are not the same, not even close. And the set-ups for them are not the same. Which do you have? It's not clear from your post.

This is the GM DIS system on the 91-95 Saturns...

I am mistaken on the EDIS ...

Edited Above post

Edited again...

With that being said... Should I use the settings on the bottom of this page... http://www.megasquirt.info/ms2/GM_DIS.htm

All except the Crankig trigger... i think im suppose to set that to either Calculater or Return.

Lordprimate,

Do not cross post your questions, and do not link from one post to another to "increase traffic." If your question is related to EDIS, put it there.

It appears that you have DIS; I have deleted your post in the EDIS forum.

Yea I just felt as though (After my last problem that No one could help me with) that It would increase the possible helpfull views...

Yea i thought the systems were symilar (EDIS / GMDIS) for some strange reason... IM all straightend out..

I guess ill try the GM DIS settings on the page llinked and go from there ...

Yea so

I am Calling myself out.....

Reading "Carefully" Is Fundimental.... RIF

the settings on the GM DIS Page Gets me up and running

Gained a new issue... Surging.... No not the sewing machine... the Sudden Increase followed by a decrease in RPM... When the fan turns on or any other Eletric device...

Lordprimate,

Surging is fairly common at first, often further tuning will sort it out.

However, if it is consistent in response to electrical loads, it *may* also be due to a few things:

- if you have low-impedance injectors, the PWM% or PWM time threshold might be a bit too low. So you might need to raise the PWM% by about 5%, and/or increase the PWM time threshold by 0.2 milliseconds.

- the battery voltage correction might not be quite right (under 'Settings/Injector Characteristics'). The default is 0.20 msec/Volt. You might try 0.30 or even 0.15.

- make sure the accel enrichment is not coming on at idle, which could happen if the MAPdot or TPSdot thresholds are too low.

If you could datalog the problem, that would help a lot. The default log doesn't include batery voltage, you can add it by following the insructions here:

Congratulations!

Glad you got it (mostly) sorted out.

I get a surge consistant with medium/high electrical loads are placed upon my alt..

I'm using Msd high Imp. injectors..

I have a high output Alt... 160 or 180 amps.. i think at 5k rpm or somestuff like that(stock saturn alt is around 100 i believe.... :? ) so i know my batterys are getting charged....

I have my Battery Compensation to 0.00 I did this because i noticed that this would Cause surging... anytime i hit the breaks or anything... so i totally turned it off....

I have 2 Batteries... One is an Odessy unspillable in the engine bay and a regular spillable(spilled) in the trunk....

my Accell Enrichment Doesnt come on at all... That is Set Tight.. for the moment... (until i rely dig into ignition timing...)
So i have my Ignition Settings page set EXACTLY like it is on the GM DIS page...

and i went to dwell control and bumped up my max dwell time. to 8 .. as hi as it would go.

went down the line to voltage correction(dwell) and buimped V1 up to 4 ms and v2 to 2 ms

that "Seemed" to help... with one Electric device coming on... IE cooling fan...

but if several things came on at the same time or
one after the other but are all on at once...

then the surging gets really bad like 200-400 rpm up and down.. up and down..
{Scene 1, Ace 1: Cooling fan, All lights on, on breaks(reducing vacume, heater on. no Stearo}
If i turn somthing off(lights) it gets better ... turn another thing off (heater)a little better... then i have like my break lights on and my cooling fan running...(besides the car electronix....) Its still searging but is slowly steady's out and idles OK..... then.. randomly it will surge again and slowly smooth out...

Its only under electric load... but yea its all stuff i would need if im driving on a cold Night....

Ill datalog in a moment... its only 7 here i have till 10 ... (cars rather loud... )

If i remember/come across anyother stuff ill post up for sure...

Putting the battery correction to zero will likely make any problem worse, try Lance's suggestions.
