How am I doing?

First off a big kudos to everyone who participates on the forums! Hopefully when all is said and done I can learn and be able to offer advice to the NOOBs too.

Man what a project. I was one of the brave souls who assembled my MS from scratch. But time spend there pails in comparison to getting it running and tuned up. So far I ran into a few problem. First I have no IAC yet. It just isn't stable. Next thing is resets. Sometimes I loose coms and you can tell the MS had a reset but the only way to bring up coms it to cycle power. And last my engine temp was fluctuating.

Now I dunno if this could of been causing the resets but here I found I had a loose wire on my coolant temp sensor. Interestingly enough it looks like someone replace the plug before I bought the car. The stock ECU did sometimes cause my temp gauge to act funky. Anyhow, I would of never known anything was wrong until I installed my MS. No wonder I hated my stock ECU so much..... hehe.

Now today was the first time I was able to be "violent" with the gas pedal. So my question is how am I doing?

My VE is rough at best and my acceleration enrichments are on the heavy side. Only reason is if I snap the throttle I get a quick lean spot. AE doesn't want to react fast enough it seems? Haven't got to mess with warmup settings much at all. Ignition is just what I changed to get pinging to stop.

Suggestions and helpful criticism appreciated.

Specifications:

1999 Saturn SC2 Stock 1.9L DOHC 4 Cyl
MS II on V3 PCB w/ 3.35 code
OBI Saturn Wasted Spark Ignition.

I'll post files off my other computer.

Hey A.J.

Sounds to me like you're doing fine. I think I'm doing good and I have more issues than you. My big one is, I'm driving my coil direct and if you put the scope on ANY wire to the MS you can calc the rpm from the coil spikes. I'm either brave or dense cause I drive mine most days, some days it runs like a dream, other days I expect to be pushing it home. Just take it one step at a time.

Yeah driving a coil I can imagine there would be some noise. The only thing I could think to try is get a cheep ignition control module like from a VW Rabbit and let it directly drive the coil instead. Not sure if that would work but they are so simple I don't see why not. If I didn't get rid of all my VW stuff I could of gave you one to try....

Good luck,
A.J.

that's awesome! We haven't tried getting the Ign to work yet, just got JW's car running on the MS2 last night, with a little bit of tuning it was idling and revving pretty well. Next will be my car once I get my header back.

This looks prety nice. I do notice that your AE is trigering when it shouldn't be at full power. You will probably need to fix that before you can correct the over rich mixture.

I didn't look at the MSQ so can't tell what is causing it but i am guessing you are using mapDOT and the threshold is too low.
Personally I never had satisfactory results with mapDOT.

mapDOT seems to react quicker when it needs to. I have my mapDOT set to 20 so it defiantly needs bumped up some more.
