Finished up the fuel system and started the 455 today to break in the cam. The engine is fully rebuilt, with a mild 220/230 cam, performer intake,1000cfm throttle body, headers/dual 2.5 magnaflow exhaust, and megasquirt. The car starts, idles, and revs beautifully. Once the air ride is completed I'll finish tuning it on the road...

here is some more pics...

well its obvious, the dummie behind the wheel never actually rev'd it over 2K RPM's. How annoying.

Lets hear that puppy sing!

Haha, only if you want to collect the rods & pieces of what used to be the crank in the pan.

From memory the olds 455 are pretty much the same as the Pontiac 455's. They are game over by about 5500rpm due to the stroke and rotating assembly weight, but god damn they'll pull put some tree stumps getting there!

getting "slightly" off topic....but a friend of mine has a 455 in his 72 grand prix that has been bored and stroked to a 468 (if I remember right) with a 250 shot on top of it. He spins it to 6500 RPM's....very daring IMO. But it is seriuosly built engine too.

But man does that thing sound wicked. 4000 pound car running low tens....when its running anyway

it all depends on how it built.

we have a project 68 buick riviera with a 455 and ti has no problems turning 8k whild doing a nice harsh torturous burnout. our goal was to explode it so we coudl go thru the motor, its completly stock and has never been touched. given we had to put a 850 holley on it to spin that high, but it does it until the points come apart

455 has a 4.21 stroke (stock) which comes out to 5600 fpm average piston speed at 8000RPMs. Now I won't say its not feasible for a motor to survive that....for a little while, its really really close to InstantBoom land.

Don't forget your inlet ports would have to be the size of tennis balls or have a hoover vacuum cleaner somewhere in the combustion chamber to even warrant those sort of revs

Oh, and a cam that's open 361° @ 0.050

RIGHTO, enough smarty comments from me... Back to the topic, good job on the 455 !!
