wasted spark v6 using 4-1 wheel?

As the subject says - I don't believe so, but just in case:

can I use a 4-1 signal (i.e., MSD's flying magnet crank trigger, designed for V8s) on a V6 engine and still run a 3-channel coilpack?

If yes, how would I configure the triggers? (I planned on using the second input, with a 1-tooth cam position sensor).

thanks,

Sorry, no. The triggers are in the wrong place. V8 triggers are spaced every 90deg. You need every 120deg.

With MS1/Extra the base configuration for you is either
. 6-1 wheel on the crank for wasted spark
OR
. 3 tooth on the crank and cam trigger for COP.
OR
. 3 tooth on the crank and two triggers from the cam (180deg apart) for W/S

i.e. for wasted spark the code needs a "reset" signal every 360 crank degrees. For COP it needs the "reset" signal every 720 crank degrees.

Higher tooth counts on the crank will work e.g. 12, 36, 60 teeth.

Excellent - thanks!!

we're off to the machinist to see about pressing an EDIS wheel onto the harmonic balancer then.

Thanks James,
