The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.

Hello everybody,
This my first post here. I got my first taste of MegaSquirt when I got a ride in a 95 ford mustang cobra with a turbo. He was running the mega squirt stand alone. I am currently working on a project Porsche 944S which had an engine fire and toasted the wiring harness and all the sensors on the motor. I decided to pull the motor and swap in a 1993 Corvette LT1 V8. The motor I purchased was a crate motor which has the fuel rail, injectors, some of the sensors but that is about it. I still need the front accesory bracket, all the front accessories, computer, wiring harness, throttle body, MAP.
I am looking at the II system to run the motor in the car because of its build it yourself design and what seems to be unlimited head room in upgrading the system. I am sure I will have questions in the future but right now I am reading as much as I can on this forum and on the website.
The optispark presents a challenge. I'm researching putting a 93 LT1 into a streetrod (46 Ford) and from what I've read on here and other forums the best bet seems to be getting a later timing cover and using the OBD2 crank sensor as the input for the ignition. Seems like people aren't having much luck using the optical portion of the optispark (although I wouldn't be suprised if someone proved that incorrect). The most informative stuff I've seen so far is on camaroz28.com. A user there (register and you can search for lt1 megasquirt) has his running with that setup. Right now, that's the direction I'm planning on going (although I haven't started yet so I'm afraid I'm not much help). Good luck on your project.
The ignition pickup is an area of concern for me as well. I wish I could completely control ignition using the MS and drive one coil per cylinder. I also wonder about the single O2 sensor on the MS verses the original computer which has 2 and how good the original computer is compared to the MS.
I am putting a crate engine in a 944 which had an engine fire burnt up the original wiring harness so I will be starting from ground zero all the way down to the battery cables. The crate motor is missing alot of parts yet that I need to collect so that posses another hurdle. I need to read more about the MS system and try to study the lt1 engine a little more. I should contact the LT1 mega squirt guy on here and get more details.
Another lt1 option is to simply drill a hole in the back of the manifold for a standard distributor. Also, if you mimic the install on camaroz28.com, you can use the megasquirts direct coil driver, you don't need the msd box. It really doesn't look that bad though.
What about removing the Optispark and running the ford EDIS ignition system with the 36-1 wheel mounted on the inside of the crank pully? That would eliminate the PITA Opti which seems to cause alot of head aches.
I am a newbie at this but I think mega Squirt is not capable of COP as of yet. This may be the next best thing I think, but I wanted some input from the veterans.
MSnS-E firmware can do COP on a 6 cylinder. Reason being not enough outputs for 8cyl. COP is overrated though. Wasted spark works just fine for even big power engines.
Well I did it. I ordered MSII on Sunday and it should arrive on my door step this week. I will then get my soldering gun a blazen and go to town.
It's funny.... I stopped at the ford dealership and asked to get a quote on a EDIS8 ignition system and all 6 guys behind the counter were like "huh?" "Uhhhh.... What kind of car do you have?" It took 10 minutes for them to figure out what I was looking for. LOL
