Just not feeling right....

Post by itguy »

Hi All

After a bit of advice if poss.

(not sure if this should be in fuel or ignition section)

I've completed my MS install in my westfield with 1800 zetec (170hp). This install included me making my own loom too from scratch.

I'm using an ford wasted spark coilpack, directy driven via 2x vb921's.

When I drive the car I'm using autotune with a innovate LM-1 etc but the car feels like its surging then retarding when cruising along at a steady speed, if you know what I mean...

Just doesn't feel settled at all, and I'm watching the AFR when it feels like this but its steady at 14.7, so I can't think its fueling, but could it be?

I'm wondering if it could be the coilpack power feed, I wonder if I've used big enough cable for it - anyone know what amps one draws? Also - dwell settings - anyone got anything working well with the ford wasted spark coilpack?

I'm also getting occasional reboots (I can tell as when I drive the car with the laptop connected it will beep) and I'm not sure what causes this either?

Thanks

Will

Ok, have sorted out the surging thing -

It was the acceration fuel enrichment set too low so even when just driving along at a constant throttle it was triggering the AE so it was causing the mixture to rocket, then the EGO over corrected etc...

Feeling MUCH more positive about the experience now, and the car was nearly fully drivable on the way home!

Still getting those pesky resets though, so now off to see how I can fix those

Check for grounding and use resistor plugs if possible.

Ok, thanks.

I've just installed another ground wire back to the battery (just incase there was engine interference with the old ground I had) but I'm already running resistor plugs, however they are of unknown vintage so I'm going to replace too.
