should MS adjust fuel automatically with change in altitude?

Hi,

I have just returned from a very successful trip to the nurburgring in Germany, completing over 1300 miles which included 26 laps of the 13 mile nordschleife in my megasquirted VW golf mk2 2l 16v track car.

The only problem i had was with my fuel mixture when i arrived at the track. The altitude at my home is around 80 feet, the track was almost 2000 feet up in the Eiffel mountains.

My idle completely went when i arrived and stopped in the track car park, i had to increase my idle bins from around 46 to 50 to get the car to idle correctly and smoothly.

The odd thing is that the rest of the map seemed to be too rich resulting in me lowering the bin values by 2 across the board to get the AFR values to a level i was used to from using the car in the UK.

Is this normal when changing altitude by this amount or should MS compensate automatically?

thanks

steve

I found the same thing with my car. The newer (beta) codes have a non-linear altitude correction that may be worth checking out. After tweaking my baro corrections a little, my car's mixtures were very consistent at different altitudes.

BTW: my car uses MS-II...

In that case, the newer extra code supports altitude correction as well.
