Settings for fuel cut rev limiter

Post by Chris Raglin »

I'm having a problem understanding the settings for a hard cut fuel rev limiter. I am running a MS1, megasquirt'n EDIS, 2.25b514.

This is on a racecar, so it's hard to just drive around and test things (it's not street legal).

I have been using the ignition retard as my soft limit. I have it set at a value of -5, which I think means that it would should be sparking 5 degrees after TDC. This would seem to be pretty aggressive, yet I can still spin the motor past it under a load (driving). I had the soft limiter set at 8600rpm and the hard limiter at 8800rpm, but the hard limiter doesn't seem to work. I can hear the soft limiter, so I know it's doing something.

If I set up a fuel cut limiter, how do I control when it quits limiting and lets the engine run again? Where do I make these settings? I really need the motor to be able to hold rpm at the limiter with the least amount of vibration / bucking, like a factory ECU does, and preferably not put a bunch of heat into the exhaust like the ignition retard does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Chris
