VR input from MSD dist running MSD 6AL box... R56-R52 adj.

MSII, V3, 2.36, MT2.25, P&H drivers, LowZ inj, MDS 6AL.

I have just made the switch back to the VR circuit. Previously I was using the tach signal from the MSD 6A to run MS. At higher rpms, 5k and over I was gettting erratic tach signal.

My question is: When adjusting R56 and R52, what results should I see. I have both pots at full CCW. I know the Hysterisis pot will help with noise, but what is it actually controlling? And what reaction should I see if I start adjusting it?

I have read thru the proceedure for adjusting these pots, but it just isnt sinking in.. "Adj R52 until the noise vanishes".. how do we see the noise?
Do I need a scope to see the effects of these adjustments, or can they be seen with the Real Time Display or the log??

Have others gone thru this proceedure, controlling spark from the 6A?

Any guidance or input would be apprceiated..

I went through this not that long ago. I can't remember which pot but the one that controls VR pick up will not register a RPM on megatune when adjusted out to far. Mine is set to 3.5- 4 turns out from CCW. The other pot is set to 1 turn out from CCW per recommendations form another MSer.

hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Nic! I did a quick tune on the pots, R52 (noise pot) I turned in about 2 turns and left R56 fully CCW. I didnt have much time to experiment with the pots. Made a few test runs and it seems like it is running good.. Havent had time to check the logs for rpm errors, but I think it is still there. I will post a log and msq so people can see what I am dealing with. I may be making this too difficult..

Ran the daylights out of it on Sat and it is still running, so far so good.

Thanks for you input!!

I have both pots to full CCW, and it appears to be pretty stable. I did have some issues with initial start up hot, but after adjusting the cranking rpm back to 300, everything seems to be working correctly.

I am still having issues with tach input not being stable. The rpm at higher speeds seems to jump around more than I think it should..
I have attempted to add a log.. how does this compare to what you see with your setups?
