Usually there are no tuning probs associated with this, except when you park a hot vehicle the air temp sensor can get heated above the normal air temp from heat off the engine, then when you restart the engine after say 15 mins, it can run lean for a while until the temp sensor stabilizes again (unless you use ego corr or some other means to correct it).
For naturally aspirated vehicles the temp sensor can be placed anywhere it can accurately measure ambient temp of the day, on a bike, under the instrument cluster is a good place. Maybe not the "technically correct" thing to do, but seems to work well for quite a few.
