will not start at all --FIXED--

Post by 65looter »

I'm not getting anywhere to be honest :(
I'm now back with the code 2.888a and will stick to that one until I get the engine started!!!

I have flashed the Microsquirt and setup a new MSQ from scratch.
find attached the msq.

Now, unless I use some easy start it will NO start :x :x :x
Fuel is coming out of the injectors.

Could someone have a close look at the msq and tell me what am I doing wrong please?
I'm going crazy right now

Edit:
Am I barking at the wrong tree? Should I use the easy start spray and get the engine warmed up to running temperature before I can start tuning the cold start?

"Fuel setup/general settings" lists a 350 cid but nothing following this menu supports this selection. What engine are you MSing?

You show an 8 cyl engine but number of injectors is listed as 4...

Required fuel will change to something more reasonable with with 8 injectors.

More information is needed as to engine size, # and size of injectors, na or forced, ITB and such.

It's a 342, throttle body 4 injectors 42lb each
my settings are correct for the "Fuel setup/general"

What's your experience with Microsquirt, just asking cos I'm seriously lost now.

The starting fluid suggests you aren't giving it enough cranking pulse width.

Can you datalog the pulsewidth during cranking?

Also, make sure that the throttle is not all the way open, this will invoke a flood-clear mode and reduce cranking pulsewidth.

Hi Bruce,

I have taken a log today, I have to say now that I have changed the cranking pulse value to 13 and adjusted the warmup wizzard it is much better.
The engine tries to start but dies right after.

There's some light at the end of the tunnel.

looter,

After the engine starts the gammae goes to 180%. You might want to try backing off on some on the ASE and increasing the cranking pw a bit more.

How do you have your TPS calibrated? The reason I ask is the datalog shows the TPS going to zero just after the engine starts and you don't have any idle control selected. I've set my TPS with the curb idle screw backed all the way out so cranking it back in to give ~ 800rpm idle the TPS shows about 5. Additional cold start air is added via a PWM IAC.

You asked earlier what my experience is with microsquirt -I'm running the usquirt code on an MSII for the MAF option.

Will do, well spotted.

I do not have the idle valve connected, TPS was calibrated through Megatune.
The idle screw is back.

It starts --SUCCESS--

Post by 65looter »

I have found this post http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34262#p208940 which gave me some starting points...

My new values are:
prime pulse cold = 30 ms
prime pulse hot = 21 ms
prime delay = 2 s

Cranking pulse at -40 = 20 ms
Cranking pulse at 71.1 = 2.5 ms
As the fuel pump is not connected to the microsquirt (the alarm is taking care of this and I do have a security inertia switch), I had to use 2s delay.
Only with such high values the engine will start, and it starts within the first crank now.
Temperatures are quite low today.

I have attached my new msq and log file.
