hi iwas running a harley sportster fuel only and having some trouble with the rpm signal from the crane ignition dropping out intermittently. i put in a stock type cam sensor 3 wire 12 volt hall effect planning on running cop directly off the microsquirt.looking at the wiring manual i believe i need to run 12 volts to power the sensor , the signal wire to optoin+ with a 1k ohm resistor inline ? or in series to 12 volts and the sensor ground to optoin-. should that work? does optoin- need to run to ground as well as it did when i was running off of the coil -. thanks ..

Run +12v and -12v to the sensor (engine ground, but you can use option-) The signal wire fom the sensor connects to VR2 input if using a crank sensor as well. If its your only sensor then yes to option +. A resistor in series is for vr sensors. Depending if your cam sensor is a - or + trigger. If its a - signal, you may need to tap in a 1k resistor fom the signal wire to +12v or +5v.

thanks, i dont know if the sensor is - or+ but i tried it hooked up with and without the resistor in series no rpm signal either way. i also tied it with the sensor - to chassis ground and optoin-. if i run it to chassis ground should optoin- also be grounded or not used? i am only running the one sensor. i also tried the tachref program to see if i could get a signal that way and the downloader came up with error message e=0x2A which i have no idea what is. thanks again...
