any other tuning software

g'day, as new age tech goes and they did away with the rs232 port,
i'm just wondering if there is any software to tune the microsquirt using the usb - rs232 converter that doesnt charge $60 for the privilege.

sure tunerstudio allows you to connect to the microsquirt for free only if you have a rs232 port on the computer/laptop...

i've tried megatunix and megatune and they both only search for the rs232 port. and dont want to detect the microsquirt via the converter.

so i'm hoping there is someone out there that has software that has the ability to tune the microsquirt using the usb-rs232 converter

TunerStudio MS Lite lets you use a usb to rs232 adapter.
It sounds like you haven't installed the drivers for it.

It does, it doesn't support D2XX, but I assure you it does work with a USB to serial cable.

D2XX is not RS232.

If you have an FTDI cable, download your drivers from:

already installed the drivers, used on windows 7 and 10 on 2 different laptops. the computers detects the adapter in com 3 or com 4 depending on which usb port i put it in. but every program fails to detect the microsquirt, yet it is powered and registering 12v constant into the power and ground of the controller.

it just outright refuses to detect the controller but will detect the com being used and that its active

What kind of adapter is it? Do you know what chipset it uses?

Most are either FTDI or Prolific, both work fine...
However a couple things to watch for... On Windows 10, Prolific stopped supporting all their older chipsets as there were too many chinese knock-offs.

Also, cables based on the HL-340 / CH34x chipset do not work. Apparently the designers failed to put any level shift. They are simply garbage.

It is flawed by design...
RS232 is supposed to go + and - in volts, to achieve this you need to shift a + volt down. They did not do this in their design, so it can work against some devices, but will not work with a MicroSquirt.
As said, it is a piece of garbage.

Find a USB to RS232 adapter based on an FTDI chipset for best results.

For what its worth, purchasing a licensed version of Tuner Studio is well worth the paltry fee, plus significant features and performance
