Re: Help with selecting a Hall sensor

A bushing that size would be effectively impossible...
Not quite impossible :)
I saw the 14mm & 12mm reference, and knew about spark plug adapters, but don't know if this gives you any more options. USA version link here .

Personally, I would use a bike Hall sensor, which usually have an O ring ...

Re: Help with selecting a Hall sensor

A bushing that size would be effectively impossible, but the idea is good. If I could find a Hall Sensor that was smaller, regardless of metric or not, it would work out quite well. If they were the same thread pitch it would be doable with larger diameters.

I really want to avoid rethreading the ...

Help with selecting a Hall sensor

Going to make a Hall sensor using a board mount 3 wire element potted inside of a threaded tube. Need a m14x1.5 thread, so this will be the easiest way since I can't find one that is available from the market.

Thanks for the help!

M14x1.5 Hall Sensor?

Yes, I could make one with a hall sensor inside my own threaded tubing...but time is not something I have much of, so I figure I should just buy one!

Does anyone know of any suppliers with a sensor that is this size and will work well in a hot engine case (130C)? I have done some googling, but have ...

Re: VR sensor board mods for uS vs AC Zener voltage clamp

Fair enough bruce!

I do want to understand it, but I get frustrated rather easily with this kind of thing. Mechanical makes far far far more sense to me. Understanding electrical stuff is a hassle and takes a ton of work/luck for me.

Re: VR sensor board mods for uS vs AC Zener voltage clamp

Just did some tests with a resistor mounted in series.

With 0 ohms I was just under 22 volts p-p at 400 RPM
With 1m ohm I was just over 12 volts p-p at 400 RPM
With 10m ohms I was just over 2 volts p-p at 400 RPM

The only other thing connected to the VR besides one series resister is the ...

Re: VR sensor board mods for uS vs AC Zener voltage clamp

Yes, this test was with no load. The "misinformed person" mechanical engineer in me did not realize the load makes that much of a difference because I didn't think the load from the uS would be significant.

I will test again tonight and get some more voltages for you guys to analyze. Are 1/4 watt ...

Re: VR sensor board mods for uS vs AC Zener voltage clamp

To compute the voltage/current output of the VR sensor is complicated. You can measure the voltage at different RPMs (across the VR) to get a trend, if desired.

I measured at 80, 240, and 400 on the lathe to get a trend. It was basically linear as expected and projected to a 600 volt p ...
