Error when starting MegaTune

Post by Patriq Backlund »

Hi !

I've just installed MS-II card on my v2.2-board. But when trying to run MegaTune I get an error when starting MegaTune.
It's 2.25b749beta. The error message is: "ERROR:megatune.ini:0028 - The included file 'MegaSquirt-II.ini' could not be opened. MegaTune is terminating."

I've configured MegaTune with the configurator as described for setting up MS-II.

What could be wrong ? The file seems to be there.

Patriq,

Did you do the "File -> Activate" step while in the configurator? You need to click on the megasquirt-II.ini.n.nn file that contains the proper version number, then click through File -> Activate to be able to use it.

You should also get rid of the beta version of MT and use the release version (this may not be true for old -Extra users, but it is true for all MS-II and "stable" -Extra users).

Hi !

No, I had missed the activation step. Now MegaTune starts, but won't communicate. It says that I should choose the same codeversion amongst all .ini -files as the one written to the MSII board.

I've downloaded and succesfully installed Monitor_v2.35.abs.s19 - which means I guees I should choose 'megasquirt-II.ini.2.35. but I only find megasquirt-II.ini.2.3

When I now try to start MegaTune I get the following error message: 'Controller code version does not match signature in MegaSquirt-II.ini. ..... Expected "MSII Rev 2.30000 " (found in ini file) Received "SII Rev 2.30000 " (from controller) Table corruption may occur.....'

I'm lost...
:-)

Kind regards,

I've jumpered x10 to pin 9 on the DB9 to feed it +5V for Bluetooth communication later on.
Could this be the reason why it doesn't communicate as it should? Should I have fed pin 9 on the DB9 with +5V from another source ?

Kind regards,

Patriq,

The error message you are seeing shows that comms are almost working, since you're seeing part of the signature come back ok. You should not need 5v to any of the comm pins until you hook up the BT device, but it shouldn't cause any problems unless the device to which you're connecting has a dead short on that pin. If you ignore the signature error, how well does it behave afterwards? Maybe this is just a startup error.

Eric !

Thanks ! I forgot to mention last time, but I have installed the latest stable MegaTune.

Regarding pin 9 on the DB9, I was more worried about if x10 that is connected to the processor possibly was creating problems for the processor.
I have now moved this jumper to the hole next to the hole very close to the M where the copyright is. The hole connected to where it is recommended to source +5V for the extra pressure sensor.

Also I got MegaTune communicating with my MSII now. I clicked the ...ini.2.3x and tried to activate it again. And then it worked all of a sudden! I have no idea why, because I did the same thing.
I've only tried with the stimulator powered by a battery, and after a few seconds the stim seems to die. So I suspect it is to worn out. I've tested the battery with a tester that says it is ok. But it only measures volt. I'll give it a go with a new battery and see if that helps - or if it stops communicating after a few seconds anyhow.

Thanks for the help so far !

Patriq,

Dead stim batteries have caused more problems than anything else over the years, make sure to measure its voltage while it's connected and turned on. Most of us that do serious stim work use a power supply of some sort, to make sure we have a robust source of volts.
