dizzy help

Post by jaybird840 »

Hi All,
I apologize if this is a lame question, but I'm a Megasquirt newbie, and I can't find the answer to my question. I've searched the archives, and can't seem to locate the information that I need. I am working on converting my CIS equipped '82 Mercedes 380sl to megasquirt. I am pretty solid on the fuel portion of the conversion, but am stumped as to what option I have for spark control. I plan on purchasing a MSII v. 3.0. and running the stock distributor with no spark boxes, etc. Can you tell me what type of dizzy and what type of signal I will get from this (hall, vr, etc.) Thanks to all of you who help make this site go!! I can't wait until I can post my setup in the success stories!

Would help if you pulled the rotor off so we can get a better look.

But if the tips of that star pattern is your trigger wheel, it would be a VR sensor.

The second picture of your first post didn't load for me the first time. Now it did along with your new picture.

Looks to me like it's a VR wheel.

Hi jaybird840 -

I agree that looks to be a VR pickup similar to GM types. To control the ignition you will have to disable both the vacuum advance (cannister on the side) and the mechanical advance mechanism - if it has one - under the pickup. You can usually tell if there is a mechanical advance if you can turn the rotor a few degrees in the direction of rotation (just moderate finger pressure) and it springs back to the original position when released.

Read-up on the VR input for MS2 here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/pickups.htm
