2cyl 36-1 wasted or not???

Post by KHLT »

Hi,

I'm thinking about microsquirt on a 2 cylinder motorcycle.

The inputs I'll have is basically a cam sensor (probably rising on TDC) and a 36-1 crank sensor.

Now reading the ignition options on the website it specifies that using a 36-1 input on a 2cyl system I must run wasted spark instead of sequential...Why is this?? Surely the timing will never go 180 degree out???

ThanX for any replies..

With a crank wheel (no teeth doesn't matter) and cam sensor and 2 coils and microsquirt you can run 2 cylinder sequential.

I'm also considering a ms on my gs500.

To give you an idea, I'm still wading through the 'what you need' section on megasquirt.com and all the forums. What are your plans for throttle bodies, etc ?

I'm considering:

TL-R (suzuki) throttle bodies since the tl-r is a 1000cc bike, two throttle bodies, and my gs is a 500 cc. Rough math says one TB should handle my two cylinders.

I'm hoping to setup a working system, then produce more for gstwins.com members that are frustrated with constant carburetor problems (like me).

email me, let's keep in touch with progress !

I am also going to srtup a 2cyl. engine.

From what I was told MicroS only needs 1 trigger input/ cyl.

My plans are to place a bolt on the flywheel for a trigger point and setup each cyl. like a seperate motor.

That should work fine, but the timing accuracy won't be the greatest. If you put one sensor on the flywheel itself and another to detect the bolt or hole in the flywheel, then you can use one of the dual spark options for just this purpose - the bolt on the flywheel will act just like the missing tooth. And you still only need two sensors.
