Laptop resets when coil hooked up
I have a steady RPM signal from a cam wheel (48 teeth total 2 missing teeth)
This is a Ducati engine 90 degree vtwin, but these are not the cigar coils, they are the older late 90's coils they look similar to Ford mustang ignition coils, it uses one coil per cylinder.
I have the trigger wheel hooked up on a motor spinning and the crank sensor positioned to read it.
all this crap is setup on a bench using a motorcycle battery.
I then hooked up one ignition coil, and it sparks(I think when it's supposed to) but it keeps resetting communication to the laptop, and the RPM's are dropping out to zero at some points.
should I assume this is some type of interference from the coil?
is there are polarity on a crank trigger sensor? would that make a difference?
could i have some other settings wrong? I originally had the "ignition capture" setup for "falling edge" and that did not give me a steady rpm signal,(with no coils)
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
P.s.
unrelated topic, in the software, all the maps are based on MAP X RPM.....is there a way to convert all the VE and spark maps and just run it soley by TPS X RPM. and only use baro, air temp, and coolant temps as modifiers to fuel when their conditions get out of normal ranges.
I supppose I could get a map sensor, but for simplicity's sake right now, I'd like to, well....., keep it simple.

Yes you can use alphaN mode and set the low rpm to a very high value like 20000. This will give you alphaN (tps and rpm based) at all rpm below 20000. Presumably you won't exceed that rpm.PrecisionDyno wrote:
