Will microsquirt fire my coil?

Post by Aaron Silidker »

It is either going to be the stock coil from my bike, a CDI coil...or a coil on plug from a GSXR750..not an EFI model so it will also be CDI.

Let me know! If not, can I get a coil from a non CDI bike (EFI bike) and run that?

Many CDI coils will not work with Microsquirt - a lot of them are designed to be grounded full time and have the CDI box fire the positive terminal.

I'm confused a bit by Matt's answer to this question. I was under the impression that megasquirt/microsquirt could not fire ANY CDI coil, as they require a very short duration of high voltage DURING the spark, as opposed to the long (relatively speaking) duration of low voltage BEFORE the spark required by "regular" coil.

Am I mistaken?

Also I don't think whether or not the bike has efi is any indication of whether or not it has a CDI type ignition???

For what it's worth, I know that US can definitely fire easy to come by CBR 600F4i coils that will probably work for your application. If you search you can find specs for appropriate dwell for the Honda coils.

I can get F4i coils for free all day long so sweet...the issue seems to be solved, great news haha.
