first time start up

Post by 109e »

Hi new to microsquirt, have installed into a ford 2.0 zetec engined car, got communication to ecu but what do i do next?
Do i need to load a base map? if so how do i do this? do i need to adjust settings in fuel, ignition etc or will a zetec base map do this automatically? Do i need to load and burn the code to ecu before i do anything? at the moment it says no code loaded in bottom left corner, have read manual many times but end up confused, is there a more straightforward method?
Many thanks, Chris.

Chris, I noticed this has been unanswered for a few days, but you have to load all the stuff in yourself. So number of cylinders, cubic capacity etc, etc etc.

A Zetec base map, if you know the values can be useful, if you are running say a back to back ECU replacement. If you have some ignition values you can translate this into the ignition tables, fuelling likewise, but it is never like for like.

Your first objective is to get a stable idle, some adequate Warm Up Enrichment so it'll start and hold idle most dys, and then you can mod till your hearts content.. 8)

PS If you are looking for an easy way out, perhaps somebody has done your stuff before at the "MS Success Stories" forum, and will post a .msq/ tune for you.

Did all that, everything seems to be working, ecu is talking to laptop, rpm's showing when cranking, just no spark

If rpm is steady when cranking, that is it never flickers down to 0, then there should be spark. It might not be at the right time to fire the engine, but there should be spark. You could put an led or test light across where the coil is and see if that flashes when cranking. Or do a datalog while cranking and look at the rpm - it should ramp up steady to cranking value and then stay there as long as you crank, then drop to 0. If it flicks to 0 every once in a while, that means you don't have a good tach signal, but if it doesn't jump to 0 until you stop cranking, then there should be spark.

Hi, it does flicker up and down when cranking, if it is something to do with the tach output, how do i rectify this? thanks.
