Utility Board for MicroSquirt Module

For engine experimenters, the MicroSquirt® PCB is offered in a module format with enhanced capabilities to be plugged into other boards. This is the place to discuss the MicroSquirt Module.

Yep..., I had to do a board re-run for a small problem on SMD connector, this is fixed hopefully this interation. I have a few to get beta tested and then we can release. At this point look at the first of the year to get this ready for prime time.

Thanks. Let me know if you need any additional testing.

I just realized that in the video the microsquirt has the header soldered to the top side. So the utility board will require a dedicated microsquirt module?

Yes, the utility board uses a microsquirt module with the header soldered on the top side.

What's the reasoning behind this?

You know I never realised this, as here was me thinking I could use one of my existing modules

Good question, as this seems to fight with creating a modular approach. Presumably, you could use a ribbon cable and twist it, but I'll have to look at the pinouts.

Go back and look at the first post of this thread - there is an clear image of the utility board stacked on top of the microsquirt module.

The reasoning for this is to provide a compact unit with screw terminal access to the module signals. Its just one example of how to use the microsquirt module in a quick and dirty method, and to show a very compact setup. Nothing magic here, just an example....

Oh, sorry, I meant "What is the reasoning behind attaching the headers to the top of the microsquirt?". Just curious, really. The only thing I can think is that you don't want the IC's to be sitting flat on another surface. But some standoffs and a project case would be a cheap remedy for this.

Is this project still going to happen? It's been quite awhile since the last post and I haven't seen any boards for sale. Just curious!

I needed something like these, but wanted to add some features, so I made a similar board with bluetooth and and an SLC-oem module added. The board files are online at MSEXTRA, and I'd be glad to sell the extras cheaply (I had to get a batch of five made anyhow).

jsmcortina has also produced some of these utility boards (or a derivation) specifically.
