i am looking for an efficient way to drive the cop coils on a high rpm boosted street bike engine.
gsxr1000 with 13,500 rpm redline.
i have done a ton of searching and have not found any definitive info as to the best route and what module would be best. i know with micro squirt it will have to be a wasted spark.
if i am at all vague in what i am looking for, let me know.
It depends on what these coils are. I assume these are the OEM coils, and are 2-pin 'dumb' inductive coils. If so, you will need coil drivers such as the BIP373. You can make your own driver modules, or buy ready-made units. I make a 2-channel unit that would work for B&G code in wasted spark (see the link in my sig below); if you want to use sequential spark (MS2Extra code allows 4 spark channels) you'll want DIYAutotune's QuadSpark.
If you have grabbed some 4-pin 'smart' coils off a car or something, then they can be driven directly by the MicroSquirt's logic-level spark signals.
If these are CDI coils, then you'll need a CDI module.
the coils are a two pin style and from what i can tell, they are not cdi.
as much as i would like to have sequential ignition, i dont plan to use a cam position sensor, only crank position.
If you wire them as individuals (one coil per driver), you can split each trigger signal to two drivers. If you want to use just two drivers (one per channel), you'll want to wire each coil pair in parallel - wiring inductive coils in series can have odd results.
