Hall effect crank shaft / cam shaft sensor

Post by nzmikec »

Hi,
Looking for a bit of info on how to hook up a hall effect camshaft and crankshaft sensor. Image attached shows how to test the sensor so I know which pin does what, and I know I need to hook crank signal to VR1IN+ and cam to VR2IN+, but need further info on ground and power.

Should I use 12v ignition switched power or VRef for power? Should I use Sensor GROUND or VR1IN- and VR2IN-?

Microsquirt documentation for VR2IN- as follows
"This is the ground pin for the second variable reluctor input (typically for a VR or Hall camshaft sensor). For use with a variable reluctor sensor (that has an AC signal) connect this wire to the second VR sensor wire. For use with a Hall sensor, leave this wire 'floating' by snipping it off and sealing it."
Does this apply to my inputs?

Thanks.

Use sensor ground.

Whether to use VREF or 12V will depend on the sensor.
