Microsquirt and Subaru install issues

Post by Martinyoung »

Hey guys,

I'm having a little trouble with my microsquirt V3 setup on my ej20 Subaru engine,

I have connected the MS to the engine using the original cockpit loom, and I'm using the original sensors,
I have TPS reading correctly
I have coolant reading 20c which is about right
I get a spark from the four wire wasted spark coil with igniter
I have fuel from the injectors,
The engine has cam and crank sensors which I thought were 6/7 but it turns out I have 36-2-2-2,
After disconnecting the cam sensor I have an RPM reading of around 160 when cranking,
I can get the engine to back fire ( a little cough) through the inlet so I have tried retarding the ignition but to no avail

So I have gone back to basics and this is where it goes wrong,
I can't get the timing light to put out a decent output to set the base timing,
I thought it was because the engine was cranking too slow so I tried the timing light on an old Land Rover and it's fine, I have tried another timing light and that is the same so I guess I'm missing something in the set up.

Could this be sync loss? I used to run ms1 on another engine and the screen would flicker when there were resets, I don't see this on the micro'
When using an engine that has 36-2-2-2 fitted as standard are the settings in the program preset and do they need much tweeking?
It says in the instructions to seperate the wires such as the ignition output and injector feeds in the loom but they come bundled together in plastic conduit, how far do people go to seperate these? All my cables run through the original engine loom plug so they are altogether,

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks Martin.

Wow this is a lonely place,

Well some how I got it started, I don't know what I've done but it fired up,
Rev'd the "crap" out of the engine cause I'd left the manifold studs loose but now it starts well, idles like "crap" But I'm happy as I can work from here,

Can you post a data log of the problem you're having and a copy of your tune file? This will give everyone more to go on.
