mechanical pump for EFI use

Post by ChevelleFan »

I got this link from a friend and it looked kind of interesting.. looks like it's only for small-block chevy at this point, but the concept seems simple enough.

Sure would amke things alot easier for those of us doing an EFI conversion!

Wonder what they want for one of them?

I went to the ordering page for a FI small-block -- $299

The model for a carb was only $20 cheaper.

Interesting, but pricey.

for higher hp motors(800+) you really cant beat this pump assuming its all its cracked up to be. a decent electric pump good to 800hp for a carb is at least 4-500$, whereas a efi pump would cost even more and BIG electric pumps arent good for street use, they tend to burn up....

This is Howard Stewart's pump and I think you should call them and ask if its been used on port efi yet. Its still kinda in development. It was developed for Busch/Cup racing. (carburetors) A performance inline electric pump isn't that expensive and is designed to make volume at higher pressure. The Stewart pump will make up to 60 psi deadheaded, but no volume up there. His idea of a bypass regulator is a dead head regulator with a jet in one of the outlets. That isn't a true return regulator system and it won't be able to maintain consistent fuel pressure over the wide demand range of efi.
Keep in mind while cranking the engine might only be turning 250 rpm or so and the camshaft turns half that. Its tough to make volume and consequently pressure at that low of an rpm.

i have this pump running now on my 468bbc with FAST seq efi. it takes longer to start because my fuel rails bleed down overnight but once its started it works good. ive spun the motor to 7000rpm making about 750hp and it held 50psi pretty solidly.
