Need help getting engine to idle

Post by hsrs10 »

Let me start by saying that I am very new to tuning with megasquirt. I will try to supply as much info as needed. Thanks in advance for any help!

What I have
Megasquirt II V3.0 2.684 firmware - just upgraded in hopes of fixing my prob.
388 ci small block chevy, Holley stealth ram, 58mm t/b, 11:1 compression, 200cc runner 2.02,1.60 valve brodix heads, GM remote coil HEI dist - 8 pin module, - duration 216 intake - 228 exhaust at .050" .484" lift on intake - .510" on exhaust. 24Lb injectors

The problem I am having is trying to get vehicle to idle and run properly on speed density. While set to speed density, it hunts at idle, goes rich to lean, pulse width jumps up and down and eventually dies. If I set it to Alpha-N, everything smooths out pulse width does not jump up and down, map sensor reading stays constant, idles fairly decent. It does run very rich though, can get it to lean out if I decrease the required fuel.

I have checked the vaccum line to the map sensor - all ok. I have tried setting the timing curve to all 15 degrees advance, think possibly a timing problem, checked all injector an timing settings - all set as per manual,
no change.

Again any help would be appreciated - I am trying to get this problem fixed before I start any real tuning.

Thanks,
Jason

Post your msq, log please, so we can take a peak at the source.

And, are you doing fuel and ignition?

sorry for being ignorant about this process! How do I post a msq log ?

I am doing fuel and ignition.

I have made some progress. I turned on barometic correction. I currently have all percentages set to 70% and vehicle will idle without hunting up and down - it is still running rich though. I also noticed that there is also a MAT correction table - shoud I move the percetages up on this also? currently they are all set to zero.

I will research some more on how to post my msq log. Thanks for helping.

Jason.

When you submit your reply, near the bottom you can upload a file from your computer.

As for MAT correction, I wouldn't worry about this right now, mine are all at 0 also after the recent upgrade.
