Fuel only in MS II

Hello,
I am trying to implement MS II V3 to control a VW 16V. I'd like to control fuel first and keep the OEM ignition before moving to Spark control when I am more comfortable with the system. Two questions:
1. Can the ignition control be disabled in MSII and does it matter?
2. I get tach signal from the negative coil and it seems to work fine. Are there any problems on continuing this way for some time, knowing the board was assembled to trigger with a Hall signal?
