The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.

I am having some troubles getting my 8v turbo Volkswagen to idle.
I am running an MSI 3.0V with a 029q2 code. I am running wasted spark coil triggered by a 60-2 wheel.
So here the problem I am having.
The car starts right up no problem, but needs me to be on the pedal or it will stall out. When I try and let off the pedal the rpm's drop down and around 500 rpm the motor starts to kick back up but then dies and
farts out the intake.
If I hold the gas as steady as possible at around 1200 rpm the car pops from the exhaust, and you can smell gas like it is getting to much gas but doesn't popping mean lean?
I been trying to watch where I am in the map in MT 2.25 under Tuning but haven't been very successful at it, so I haven't adjusted the VE table yet because I am not sure where in the map to change.
I can post up a datalog and my MSQ when I get home if that will help.
For what its worth, popping out of the exhaust usually means very retarded timing. I suggest you drop your required fuel 15% and see if the idle improves. It may kill the rest of the running range but it will tell you if the idle trouble is excessive fuel. If this does not help take a look at the timing with a strobe light. If you are using wasted spark make sure your ignition leads are paired correctly although if this was wrong I think you would have bigger problems than just a rough idle.
Since the MS site was vandalized, the direct file posting option has not been restarted, but hopefully will soon. You can attach it to an individual's or by clicking those little buttons under their posts. If you want everyone to see it here, you can upload it to your webspace (most providers give you free online storage space with your account) and post a link here or insert it directly into the message.

I had this problem with my buddys turbo 8v vw. He has a ported cross flow head, mild cam, 650cc injectors and a really short runner intake manifold(runners are only 4 inches long). To get it idling properly the ve bins around idle had to be all the same number(as per the tuning instructions) and had to have the mixture at 13.5. The biggest effect on the idle was the timing. Anything under 12deg caused a lot of surging/hunting and poping out the exhaust. Ended up using 16 deg at idle to get it stable and added timing under the idle rpm to 19deg. Best to get the idle mix somewhat decent at first then play with the timing then back to getting the mixture dialed in.
Yes I have the msq. The engine is a 2.0 aba block 9.3 compression, ported 8V cross flow head. Turbo is a stage3 T3 .63AR turbine housing and a t4 B25 compressor. Fuel setup is 650cc high impedance injectors short runner intake manifold 60mm honda throttle body. Running 029q2 60-2 wheel decoder, 2vb921s running wasted spark to a msd neon coil pack.
I would only use this msq as a referance maby to get your wheel decoder settings right or as a very basic starting point. The timing map is tuned pretty agressive and would be usless in boost for pump gas, would probally ping its self to death. (running 110 leaded race gas at 19 pounds of boost). Use at your own risk.
